Ask the Answer Guy – Is Bad RAM Causing My System to Crash?

Dear Brent,

Lately my machine has been crashing and rebooting, and I'm wondering if that's due to bad RAM. How can I find out?

Whenever you suspect your memory's modules are bad because of system crashes, lockups or reboots, it is smart to make sure your modules are in working order. Memtest86+ is a utility that tests whether your memory is working properly. It repeatedly writes a huge amount of different patterns to all memory locations and reads them back again, verifying whether the result of the read is the same as what was written to memory.

There are many reasons to run Memtest86+, but the most important one is to test whether your memory modules might be bad. Click here to download this useful utility.
